Let’s go Greek.
I love Greek yogurt because it is full of protein goods that we as humans need every day. One cup of Greek yogurt can have up to 22 grams of protein. Greek yogurt in the morning will also help keep you full and makes a great snack during the day. Greek yogurt works internally and externally. I started using the yogurt in different face recipes and I really like how my acne prone skin is reacting to the protein goodness.
How it works
It works to soothe sun irritated skin. Packed with lactic acid, a natural alpha hydroxy acid, Greek yogurt exfoliates and keeps your skin soft. It also helps lock moisture in your face.
To pamper yourself with a yogurt facial, just wash your face and apply straight yogurt or add a few skin loving ingredients to elevate your experience. Let the mask sit for 10-15 minutes before rinsing off with warm followed by cold water. Pat dry and moisturize using your favorite homemade moisturizer.
Its uses and benefits
Use it as a moisturizer
When used regularly Greek yogurt can help revive dull skin on your face. Apply a simple face mask twice or more times during the week to achieve soft and supple skin. It also locks in moisture.
Enjoyed the sun too much? Fear not Greek yogurt can help soothe your sunburn. The zinc in yogurt helps cool the harsh effects of sunburn.
I use plain whole milk Greek yogurt directly on face or sometimes 1 Tbsp. of the protein goodness and 1 Tbsp. Aloe Vera. A few drops off essential oil e.g. chamomile. It cools and soothes your skin.
The anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties in the yogurt can help keep acne at bay. Add a few drops of tea tree oil, 1 Tbsp. honey if possible Manuka honey, 1 Tbsp. yogurt. Let mask sit for 10-15 minutes before washing.
Use often to smooth out discolorations on skin. To help boost its natural properties add juice from half a lemon to your 1 Tbsp. of yogurt. Mix and apply. Follow steps above.
Please note that lemon makes the skin sensitive to the sun. This type of mask is best used at night. Avoid the sun whenever possible or use a good sunscreen. Personally, I use this mask only at night.
Although yogurt masks are not the fountain of youth, they sure help slow down the aging process. One of the benefits is that these masks help reduce fine lines and wrinkles. The lactic acid can also dissolve dead skin and tighten pores.
Since yogurt is dairy based please watch out for any allergies. Signs of allergies include break outs, itchy skin, redness or a combination of all. Stop using immediately if this occurs. As always natural skin care should not replace your medical health care.
